Rebecca

by Ben Huot

One who's always been there
A like minded friend
When I look at Beary, my pet cow I think of you
Sparing the creatures that crawl on the earth
For the sea creatures you are more weak
Will you ever find your soulmate?
Will I ever be an uncle?
I can hear the streetsweeper coughing by
You can hear your dog howling at the moon
I don't live by the clock
But I am more comfortable not having to hurt innocent animals
Fighting crimes of the spirit with wisdom
I support eco-terrorists and dress up like the Gateway mascot
While you study confused Latin names for ordinary plants
I will behold the mysteries of the book once written in Latin
Both joinging forces to subvert the establishment
We are ineffective against our own mom
You spend more on college than I do on rent
But we both spend the same on a haircut
You collect things to put on your refrigerator
I collect things to keep my maids busy dusting
Francais, my rooster, says "hi"
He thanks you for not roasting his lovers
On your spiritual journey you'd be happy
To know that you are on the right road
The key to Islam is submission
Just like the military without the bonus
While I take on the challenges that I see fit for the day
You fiught the good fight against discrimination that I could never understand
We're only a city away
So drop by if you don't think cowboys riding a mechanical bull is nightlife
I have to concede
My poem is worse written than the Upanishads
There is no meaning to it at all
Maybe I should stop while I'm behind the eight ball
